the previews of the off broadway version for be more chill are in 2 weeks! im totally hyped! but im worried about the fan behavior. i already made a post about this but it doesnt hurt to do it again.

1. be quiet and dont sing alone especially during michael in the bathroom. critics and broadway producers are going to show up to the showings. they will not put money behind it or leave good reviews if youre screaming at the top of your lungs. the actors are on stage, not you.

2. RESPECT THE ACTORS. dont address them as the characters they play. be kind to them and compliment their performance. please dont bombard them or harass them. remember they are people too.

3. please be nice to one another, people had panic attacks at a different showing for be more chill because everyone was so loud.

4. if youre hard pressed on wanting to bootleg, please be discreet about it. this is new york city, you can be charged for filming. if youre in the first 5 rows, just don’t do it. trust me, the actors can and will see you.

you can cheer and you can talk to the actors, just be good people and set a good example. that way the showing of be more chill will be fun for everyone!

Y’all seriously this is extremely important. There’s so much I could say to elaborate on this as an actor myself, a theatre goer for 18 years, and someone with extreme sensory issues ESPECIALLY sound. I won’t delve into it, though, because thinking about people being this disrespectful to professionals makes me incredibly pissed. I’ll sum it up like OP did, short and simple.

Along with not fucking singing along (huge pet peeve of mine, especially when I’m on stage), DON’T STAND UP DURING THE PERFORMANCE. I wish this was something people would understand. It should be clear! You’re blocking other people’s views, distracting the actors, and causing a scene. I’m talking about standing up and staying standing, not leaving the room in an emergency. Things happen. But if you can, STAY IN YOUR SEAT UNTIL INTERMISSION.

Another thing: The actors don’t owe you ANYTHING. You paid for a show, they gave you a show. They aren’t obligated to sign anything, take any picture, or accept any gift. Don’t be the asshole who makes an actor uncomfortable and ruins the experience for other fans AND that professional. Appreciate what they do for you that’s not in their job description. APPRECIATE EVERY ACTOR. Just because Tiffany Mann isn’t Katie Ladner doesn’t mean you get to slander her for it. She is her own person! This is a new cast, an essentially new production!

One last thing (though it’s not near the last thing I want to say): If an actor is singing or speaking on stage, SHUT UP! If a song just ended, yes! Clap! Applaud! The actors pause for your cheers! But when they start back up, BE QUIET! Let everyone hear what they’re saying! Some kids at my graduation never got to hear their names called after 12 years of school because people in the crowd cheered too late for another kid. Don’t be that asshole.

If you paid a million bucks and your two front teeth to get in that seat to see BMC this summer, SO DID OTHER PEOPLE. YOU’RE NOT ENTITLED TO ACTING LIKE A CRIMINAL BECAUSE IT WAS HARD TO GET THERE. YOU ARE RUINING IT FOR PEOPLE WHO PAID MORE THAN YOU AND WORKED HARDER THAN YOU.

Thx 🙂💋🐾
